Here's Autumn!

Autumn may have arrived today, not officially or on its due date, but in the coolness of the morning air. There is always something extra special about the first few days of lower humidity and cooler temperatures that is invigorating to me. Before you know it, the leaves will start their annual color transition show, and the birds who have made this area their home since it got warm will start their own migration.

From a sports perspective, football is starting up, as are hockey and basketball. Baseball is still going on and you can always find golf this time of year.

Ya gotta love this season!

Stained Glass Panel (mine)

Last month I blogged (is that a verb now?) about my new hobby of working with stained glass. Since then I have done a few projects and wanted to share my latest with you. Here is a picture of a stained glass panel that I just finished. It will hang in our kitchen window and catch as much of the sun as possible.

I "borrowed" the concept from an online picture by an artist, and designed this piece myself with that concept as the basis. That was a big step forward for me, and maybe even qualifies me as an artist in training!

I learned a lot from my first few projects, mostly what not to do, which made this one much easier and higher quality. I am still learning, but am much more confident than before.

Enjoy! And keep learning.

First of September Musings

How did it get to be the first of September? Seems like summer just started, but then again with all those days of 100+ degree heat, I am kinda glad we are moving towards a cooler time. Labor Day is on the way, and we are going to escape to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a couple of days.

I am looking forward to the mountains. We used to go as a family every Labor Day weekend to stay at either Big Meadows or Skyland. It was sort of the unofficial end to our summer, as we nearly always returned to school starting the next day. That tradition ended when Philip had football practice over the holiday weekend, so it has been a while since we have been to the mountains.

Even if traditions end, we still have memories, and no reason we can't make more.

happy Labor Day!
