Redemption at the U.S. Open

You have to be impressed with the 72-hole performance of Rory McIlroy, the twenty-two year-old golf wiz who left the rest of the pack behind in winning the U.S. Open golf tournament this weekend. Remember he was one of the kids who was dominating the Masters this year, until Sunday when he completely melted down. So it was great to see him overcome that with a completely consistent game. And he did not play it safe on Sunday either. He played his game, and charmed the crowd with his determination. The result was the best score in U.S. Open history. Huge margin of victory. Led throughout the tournament. Hit nearly every green in regulation. Almost never 3-putted. On and on, it was a massive redemption from his final day at the Masters just two months ago.

Oh yeah, it was Father's Day, and Rory's dad was there cheering like the rest of us. Except he was the one who influenced Rory to become a great golfer and person. We just cheer him on in both endeavors.

Happy Father's Day!
