Reaching Out

Today I signed up with Linked in -- a web-based networking center established to help business contacts find each other. Since they had a space to put profile information, I entered my info there. Click on the icon below to see my profile.

Another Transition?

My daughter Emily is back at JMU for the fall semester. This year she is living in a house with four other girls, er, young women. So what is the transition here?

Think about my situation. It is always difficult to have your child, er, young woman moving away. Life changes for me when that happens. There are no value judgements about whether my life is better or not, things just need to change. There is a short-term transition of getting used to having only 3 of us around the house. There are less really late nights at home. Summer is over.

Emily of course is going through a transition. Living off campus is different. She has to be responsible for new things. Safety, always a concern for girls (okay, women!), is more of an issue. Her name is associated with legal documents obligating her to pay for certain things in a timely manner. She now has to get to her classes and back in some way other than walking. Mostly, this transition is about preparing for life after college. On her own. That's when it hits you that she really isn't a child anymore.

And that I have a bigger transition to go through.

I miss her!

On Being Kind to Strangers

In the newest edition of the Voyage of Your Life eZine, I challenge all of us to find ways to show kindness to strangers. The preferred method is to do so without expecting to receive anything in return. There are lots of ways to do this, I list a few in the eZine. You can certainly use this blog to keep a running tally of the ways you thought of to show kindness.

The expressions of kindness don't have to be huge either. Today I engaged my left turn signal well in advance of the place I needed to stop, so that the person behind me had plenty of time to move into the right lane to go past me.

And just because this month's focus is on being kinder, next month will not be about being gentler!

If you are not a subscriber and want to get onto the list for the monthly eZine, follow this link: http://www.fullsailcoaching.com/ezinesubscribe.html I will make sure you get the current issue as well.
thanks for reading!
